Game of Thrones--Who is your favorite minor character?

I really mean from the Song of Ice and Fire series of books, but I put Game of Thrones since that is more recognizable these days to more people. I'm rereading all the books again for the fourth time, and I'm halfway through with A Feast for Crows. I can't understand why so many people rate it the worst of the series, because I just love it. I even love how it gives us differing POV characters than the earlier books did. To me it is expanding on the world building in very interesting ways.

Well it just struck me while reading that one of my absolute favorite characters in the series is Podrick Payne. I don't recall at the moment whether anything happens to him later on, but I hope he gets to be a big hero eventually. I also really enjoy Samwell Tarly.

Who is your favorite minor character?

  1. Still have not read the books. They are on my to do list :)I do love the series though and can't wait for the next one to start. Way toooooo long inbetween! I can't remember their names but I rather like that wild girl and the giant :)

  2. Was there a giant in the tv series, or do you mean 'The Mountain Who Rides'? He's a pretty evil dude!

I just finished A Feast for Crows this morning, and my favorite Podrick has been left dangling from a noose, but the way it ended, I get the feeling Martin will have him survive the encounter. I certainly hope so!

  3. Do you count Sandor Clegane as minor? If so, he's my favorite. If not, it's Oberyn Martell, The Red Viper of Dorne.

  4. I'm similar to Matthew, my order is:

    Sandor Clegane
    Aemon Targaryen
    Oberyn Martell
    Asha Greyjoy

  5. Also, I'm with you in the minority that at the time, I did not dislike A Feast For Crows as much as my friends did. I will say, though, that all my friends who thought Feast was the poorest offering now thing Dance is the poorest, and with that I agree with them.

  6. AFFC was awesome because we get so much good Greyjoy stuff! Favorite minor character would probably be Lord Varys.

  7. So why does no one else love Pod? He is so loyal and, though so meek normally, he is amazingly brave when it counts.

  8. That's a great question. I like Podrick too. But is Brianna a main or minor character. I'm hoping she does something big.

  9. Susan, it's really up to individual interpretation. For me anyone who gets their own POV chapters is a major character, which is why I didn't go for Samwell Tarly as my favorite minor one.

  10. I am reading my FIRST time through--I am Also on Feast for Crows and you probably have some insight because you've gotten a lot farther, but thus far, my favorites are Arya. Tyrion and I think Brienne (and I think she was good for Jaime, character development-wise)--I do like Samwell, and I have a lot of theories about Jon Snow. I don't mind added characters, but I don't like how feast for crows names the chapters for the WHAT of them instead of their names. And I find myself a little frustrated that some of the characters I was so attached to have not yet made an appearance-I'm sure we will get BACK to Tyrion, but I wanted to see more of him in this book. I'd also like to see what Bran is up to.

  11. I like Podrick, I just haven't had enough of him for him to top Sandor or Oberyn. Plus it's pretty much impossible to top the guy who killed a mountain.

Oh, and by the way, enough is enough with Die Hard. I can't do it anymore.
