Blogger Reviews

It's been a busy week at work with Secretary of Defense Gates visiting, so I apologize for not blogging. I'm going on vacation next week, yay! We'll be in London seeing Green Day at Wembley Stadium and then Pearl Jam in Hyde Park. These will be the first rock concerts for my sons.

One minor quibble I have had with Blogger was that they ranked me so low - a mere 6.5 on their ten point scale. I see lots of blogs ranked better that don't have nearly as much as I do now. At the time I had no sidebar, no header to speak of, and only one or two posts (and certainly no followers). Their rules say they will only re-rate a blog if at least ten people rate it higher on Blogger. So, if anyone would like to help me get a re-ranking, please click on the little orange 'Blogged' icon and help me out with a ranking. Thanks in advance!

Edit to add: Hey it's working! I don't understand it, because it still says there are no reader reviews, but the editor's ranking jumped to 7.3! Come on, can we get to 8, at least?

  1. I gave you a nine. I wanted to go ten but it seemed lazy.

  2. Ha! Thanks, Matt. I know it seems silly, but it bugs me to be so low ranked on Blogger when I see how many worse blogs there are above me.

  3. How in God's name do you find out what kind of rating you have on Blogger, I've never heard of such a thing.

And I do apologize profusely, from the bottom of my heart for the 's in your short. I did read Stephen Kind, and then for fun I read Strunk & White. I was wrong, you/they were right, so I apologize. I don't remember where I found my version of the rule, I only now it's been stuck in my head forever.

Have fun in London, you lucky duck. And Pearl Jam, Wow! Really lucky duck.

And I gave you a 10 because you don't have all that stupid stuff messing up your side bar, it's all regular and not time consuming. So I thank you for that.

  4. Anne, thanks so much! I don't remember how I originally did it, but when I first made this blog I added the code to have the little Blogger link appear on the right. If I click on that I can see my rating. Grrr!

  7. I did not even know Blogger had rankings!
Have fun at the concerts! I am taking my oldest son to his first concert in August. He can't wait!

  8. Yeah, I've been playing these bands on the car cd player for weeks to prep for these concerts! I hope they are amazing.

  9. Ted, I could easily just email you but I wanted to say it here so that others can see. I'm about halfway done critiquing the chapter(s) you shared with the group and I am LOVING The Shard right now.

I may be the perfect reader for your story because of my love of fantasy but I really feel that there is not enough of this kind of tale out there. Just sayin.

Also, crap, I was going to say something else but now I forgot. I'll come back if I think of it.

  10. I was aiming this book at readers like myself (and you apparently!). It's so nice to hear this.

BTW, feedback from someone on Authonomy has me considering rewriting the prologue from the fathers POV rather than the son. What do you think? I chose the son because it would keep it shorter. I understand how it can be better to do as Midas, but that also ensures a longer chapter and prologues should generally be kept short.

  14. Mohamed, unfortunately I was working on other issues related to his trip. My wife, however, was tasked with showing Mrs. Gates around the town.
