Die Hard Set in Budapest

Here are a few photos so you can see what has been going on outside our embassy every day for the past few weeks.
Here you can see the parliament building in the distance. Nearby are fire trucks on standby due to pyrotechnics in use on the Die Hard 5 movie set.
The above picture is me turning to the left from the first picture. The embassy is behind me here. Ahead you see the set, and both buildings are in use. The one on the left is where both the NY police 9th precinct and the airplane scene were set, so it's the building I 'worked' in as an extra last Monday. A number of other scenes are being shot in the building on the right, though I don't yet know which scenes. I think there may be a restaurant scene there.
Here is a closer shot of the building on the right from the second photo. They were doing filming under the gray covering you see in the center to the left of the tree.

  1. You are having the time of your life, aren't you?

  2. And they're pretending the film takes place in Russia, right? Hollywood is so funny.

  3. Alex, it is a nice change from the drabness of everyday life, even if I only have a VERY peripheral role in all this. I keep dreaming that some miracle will happen that could allow me to speak a line or two in the film, but realistically I know that won't ever happen.

Matt, it's apparently much cheaper to film here and the regulations aren't as strict as trying to actually film in Russia.

  4. That's fun stuff. I'm so glad they tapped you for some scenes! You will always be able to say, "hey, I was in that movie!" :)

  5. I can't wait to see your nude scene.

    Just kidding.

But ya never know. You could be a big star soon and then they'd pay you millions to be nude on screen.

  6. If for no other reason this is a movie I have to see now. Thanks for sharing the pictures, what a blast you must have had!

  7. It must be really cool to see it all being put together.

  8. Thanks for showing us the set. It's always a surprise when people see how much goes into a production (people and equipment).

My daughter was an extra in The Fantastic Four when it was filmed in Vancouver. She saw some amazing feats when they did the shooting at night (in the am since it was right in the middle of our downtown area). The film industry is quite interesting to watch. Even more fun to be in it - as you've found out. The last film daughter was an extra in, was directed by Robt Redford.

  9. D.G., your daughter is so lucky to live in a place that is not only beautiful, but gets so many movies to be a part of. There may be more movies coming here to Budapest, but it still isn't a whole lot, and it's harder for me to get involved in them since the local talent agencies don't want us diplomats (we don't have local tax numbers).
