Game of Thrones

I noticed a new follower and clicked over to check out his blog. This one appealed to me immediately since the author's taste seems to coincide very much with my own. The first posting I read was about George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones novel. He mentioned that he rereads the series when a new book comes out, and that is exactly what I do. I can't just read the new book -- the series is such a pleasure for me that I have to go back and read it all again from the beginning before I can touch the new book. Since I'm waiting for A Dance of Dragons to come out in paperback, I'm relishing the thought of starting over yet again!
The television series has been great as well, and I can't wait for season two. I hope they not only keep going through all of the books, but maintain the high quality we have seen so far. I'm only sorry that the actor who played Gregor "The Mountain That Rides" Clegane left the series and had to be replaced by another. I hope we don't lose any more of the cast.

  1. Hey Ted! First I must say thanks for giving my blog a shout out, very cool of you to do;) Although the re-read has been time consuming its been a pleasure to dive back into that wonderful world. I'm almost done with "A Dance with Dragons" and I'm very sad to be nearing the end. These books are what really got me into the genre and they remain my favorite! Thanks again Ted I look forward to reading your blog!

  2. Take care of yourself in Afghanistan. I always work with marines at the embassies, and they are typically cool guys.

  3. We don't have HBO, but I have seen season one. I was impressed. Never read the series though. And I guess I'm odd because I almost never reread a book.

  4. Yeah, I'm a slow reader. I can't reread books unless I'm going to teach them. I actually stopped reading in the middle of the series a couple of years ago because Martin was taking so long to put out Dragons. I still need to finish Swords, then I can get into Dragons. But then it'll be fifteen more years until the next one comes out. I think you have the right idea. It's worth it to reread. I just wish I had the time.

  5. Wow, that's a lot of pages to reread. I've only read the first one and haven't seen the series yet, but I loved it. I really need to get caught up.

  6. I don't have HBO so I can't watch the series. But, it did attract me to the novels. I've bought the first three, but haven't had time to read them. I'll be buying the next three as soon as I have money and can journey to the B&N.

I'm a series reader - especially for fantasy. I've read several series over and over; and when a new book comes out, yeah, I have to read - or at least skim through - the prior books to re-familiarize myself.

I guess that's why I buy series; to revisit a favorite world and continue a saga.

Ted, I hope your novel is a series, so that when I buy it, I know the story will continue and I can indulge a fantasy at a later date. I love looking forward to the next chapter.

  7. Season 2 has been confirmed for April 1st. I can't wait to get stuck in again! Though I've still not read any of the SoIaF books, I think it's a good thing as I can watch the series without knowing any spoilers beforehand.

  8. Did you read the chapter that George R.R. Martin posted on his personal website? It's a gift to the fans of his series and is an excerpt from "The Winds of Winter."

If you hadn't read it, I say most emphatically "you are welcome."

  9. I've been enjoying Dunk and Egg while I wait. Also spending way too much time reading theories on Tower of the Hand.
